Class Descriptions

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu // This class is an opportunity for every BJJ student, regardless of rank, to work together towards improving their fundamentals, transitions, submissions, and more.  “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” For those newer to BJJ, please know that you provide an excellent opportunity to the higher ranked students when you allow them to train with you and help you on your journey.

No Gi Jiu-Jitsu // NoGi is a more modern approach to jiu-jitsu and incorporates a lot of grappling and wrestling techniques without the use of the tradition gi used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  It is an incredible workout and necessary for any student interested in participating in MMA (mixed martial arts).  Although there is not a gi- the game is still one of submissions and control.

Muay Thai // This class is an all levels class that the beginner or expert will feel satisfied in being part of.  Our instructors are not only incredibly talented in the art of Muay Thai, but also in the art of designing a class that stimulates each athlete without leaving anyone feeling defeated or left behind.

Fundamentals // Again you will notice BJJ, Muay-Thai, and No Gi classes specified as “fundamentals”.  Please do not assume these classes are reserved for new or beginner students.  In fact, the mat is often filled with higher ranked students who know the value of maintaining a strong fundamental game to build new techniques off of.  The title includes “fundamentals” to allow an expectation for the class and the pace of it.

Live Training // Nike’s slogan “Just Do It” comes to mind here.  When participating during Live Roll you are given the opportunity to gauge your level and skill in BJJ with training partners who have your safety and success at heart.  Drilling techniques a thousand times over creates skill, but testing and challenging that skill often develops passion for improving it.

Kid’s Program // These classes are 45 minutes in length and designed for our students ages 5-10 years of age.  Your child will learn the basic funamentals in each art, as well as enjoy games and warm-ups that help them become more coordinated and in tune with their own body. (10 years of age + will attend the fundamentals classes.)

MMA // Thanks to the UFC this popular sport doesn’t require much introduction.  MMA represents Mixed Martial Arts and is just that, a combination of a variety of different martial arts.  The fight can be finished on the ground in a grappling/jiu-jitsu manner just as easily as standing and striking.  Professor Felipe Fogolin is a professional MMA Fighter and has designed this class to marry the ground game and standing game together.  He’s been quoted saying, “You can have great jiu-jitsu and great muay thai, but until you learn how to make them work together, and set up your shots and takedowns, you won’t be able to use either effectively in MMA.”

CrossFit // We have partnered up with our neighbors next door at CrossFit Newport Mesa. Triunfo members can enjoy the benefits of CrossFit’s Workouts of the Day Monday through Friday to help you achieve your fitness goals. There are five different versions of each workout to ensure that you will feel comfortable and confident in your ability to safely participate. We can increase or decrease the level of difficulty depending on your skill set.
